Windows and Walls

Before the official move, we wanted to get a few jobs completed in the house. Once the builders finally signed off on their work, we were able to get in and do some of our own! Some of the pictures make it hard to tell, but we painted the great room a light grey color. Since we have 20ft. ceilings in there, I was very confident that this was something I couldn't do myself. So we hired an amazing team to come and do that work for us.

We had bought a five gallon bucket of that grey paint, and they probably used a little more than half on that giant room. But it left plenty for me to do the stairwell, hallway and the main floor office. Granted, it took me a very LONG and tiring day to just do the office. So there is still some work to do with painting. But I feel that the hallway will be a lot easier than the office was!

I think my husband took on an even bigger project though, putting up all of the blinds in our house. Some of them were very heavy, and he did a lot of the work while I was unavailable to help. They look fantastic in every room though, and it makes me happy to know that we saved so much money doing them ourselves! I'm not sure that he feels the same though.  haha

Now it's time to move in all of our stuff and start making this beautiful house our home. We plan to be here for a VERY long time, and never want to move again.

Working From Home

I ended up taking an unexpected day off / work from home day today to make sure that our to-do list at the house was tackled as much as possible. Our contractor showed up at 8am on the dot to meet me here with his game-plan, and the cleaning crew came in right behind him. About an hour later, we had the electrician in here, and we officially have power to all outlets and switches now! Direct TV did all of their installation work this morning, so I'm sitting here watching HGTV while I keep up on work emails and wait for the painters to finish their touch-up work.

It's amazing how this place finally started to feel like our new home today. We have another list to check off on Friday, but the hubs will be tagging in for his turn on a day here. Considering Friday is the day we start to do some custom paint and small detail fixes, I think things are going to all look up from here! So excited to get back in here on Saturday and see the progress!!

First Weekend At The House

Day one turned out to be a fairly frustrating day at the house. Our security system installation took four hours longer than estimated, and our cable installation was an epic fail. Somehow, the order I put in over the phone last week is not what showed up with the technician. On top of that, the promised paint touch up and cleaning work in the house was still not completed, and our contractor had left town for a long weekend. I had brought over all of the tools I needed to seal grout, granite and start the painting processes throughout the house. But without anything cleaned, all of my plans were completely put on hold. Despite the frustration, the finishing touches in the house look great, and we are super excited to get started on our new home.

Today, we decided not to let the stalled work halt our progress, so we started to take a look at hanging blinds, and found that some of the hanging hardware was missing. Dang! So instead, we hung some drapes in our bedroom, and we can now say that we completed project number one at least!  haha
